The collection consists of plaques, awards, medals, diplomas, and regalia dating from Byron's presidencies of the University of Scranton and the Catholic University of America. There are also photographs from his CUA years, especially a 1985 trip to Taiwan.

Rev. William James Byron was born in on May 25, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Philadelphia, and after service in the U.S. Army's 508th Parachute Infantry, he attended St. Joseph's College and joined the Jesuits in 1950. He earned degrees in philosophy and economics from St. Louis University, two theology degrees from Woodstock and a Doctorate in economics from the University of Maryland.
